Ok, so I purchased this to replace my lost copy. I made the cover afghan a few years ago in the blue and loved it SO MUCH I made it again, for my mother in browns (she's a browns and beiges sorta persoN) Man I just LOVE this pattern. And there are so many others to try. I am an afghan pattern book collector and have books that are over 35 yrs old and older but this is hands down my most favorite. I have no clue how my original one got misplaced because I keep all of my books in the same place, unless its stashed with a bag of yarn somewhere accidentially but this seriously is THE BEST book for Afghans and I FULLY HIGHLY AND COMPLETELY RECOMMEND IT! Even for just the cover afghan, it makes up so nice. I used Caron Simply Soft and its just so cuddly. This book is a MUST have for your pattern collection.. or to start a collection.

No manufacturing, No index

Presents the concept of 3D MODEL-BASED CAD as the basis for an engineering and enterprise structure. As a plus, it does this without reference to any specific software package, treating the software as the engineering commodity that it really is. One of my problems with this book is that it is very general in nature, and doesn't elaborate on any of the troublesome details which inevitably become the pitfalls that allow the software people to oversell expensive solutions. Another problem with the book is that it does not address the problem of manufacturing real products from MODEL-BASED CAD. While this book show shows a few 3D printed parts, it does not address how MODEL-BASED CAD is applied in the hot and nasty real world of manufacturing, where 99 percent of manufactured goods are in some way touched by a human. The other problem with this book is that there is no index to allow quick reference. You may argue that at a slim 139 pages, an index is unnecessary, but given modern publishing software, such an argument is at least moot, if not just plain lazy.

I just finished the book, Re-Use Your CAD: The Model-Based Handbook by Jennifer Herron. When I saw Handbook in the title, I thought it would be just another dry reference book, but I was pleasantly surprised that it was much more than that — it’s a very good learning resource.

The book not only discusses MBE/MBD workflows, life cycles, and methods, it also covers the roles and responsibilities of the people performing the myriad tasks involved in designing, engineering, and manufacturing a product.

There are many graphic charts, tables, and illustrations throughout the book that supplement what is being discussed in the text. The two complement each other well and make the concepts easier to grasp, not to mention providing nice breaks on what could be dry material if text alone. The author also provides several real-world examples, rules, tips, and best practices throughout the book to reinforce concepts.

If you are new to the concepts of MBE/MBD and want to learn about an innovative design approach that will probably improve your products and processes, then this book is definitely for you.

If you're looking to push "Model Based" into your engineering processes, and if you aren't you should be, I would say this is definitely the first source you want to have on hand to understand the needs and nuances involved. The author provides topic introductory material and what must be an experienced inside view of the technical, cost, and human issues involved in developing a successful implementation. I've already loaned my copy out, but I know it will come back to me through a more productive, reusable, product development world.

A GREAT book on ESD design and synthesis. Highly recommended!

This is another great book in the ESD book series by Dr. S. Voldman. It covers the most up to date materials by the publication time. It is very well-written and well-organized. I find this book particularly valuable for the following reasons. The book focuses is on chip level design issues and provides architectural perspectives, while covering ESD design techniques and methodologies comprehensively. Readers can gain important circuit and chip design insights in addition to ESD knowledge. The approaches covered in this book are portable to a variety of technologies and applications. This makes one's study very efficient. Floor planning and power grid chapters provide practical guidance while the presentation is very rigorous. Like other books in this series, there are many examples which can be used directly in one's own design. Power clamp, signal pad and guard ring chapters cover the most important issues and techniques in designing these key elements to ensure the on-chip ESD and latchup robustness. Also importantly, there are many sections focusing on how to adopt ESD design techniques in modern CAD-enabled design. Even some p-cell codes are included in Chapter 6. I highly recommend this book to all IC circuit, system designers and ESD, reliability engineers.

SHOULD YOU JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER?

After reading Darn Easy, I’ve decided that the best time to judge a book’s cover is AFTER you’ve read the book. When most who have striven for success, or are in the process of doing so hear that success is that easy—particularly Darn Easy—we are turned off; it simply doesn’t fit our paradigm, what we know in our hearts to be true.

The contents of Darn Easy fully justify the cover title’s claims. In fact, the greatest gift I received from reading the book is a more fundamental understanding of Napoleon Hill’s admonition:

If you are one of those people who believe that hard work and honesty alone will bring riches, perish the thought.

In Darn Easy Peggy McColl and Brian Proctor put meat on the bones of Hill’s quote by taking the willing reader through sound practical and spiritual principles for achieving whatever it is he or she really wants. They clearly demonstrate that you can work half as hard and earn twice as much love, peace of mind, celebrity, digits off your golf handicap and, yes, money too.

There is one catch, however: though you will work half as hard, you have to work for their principles to work…. Darn it!

Books on analytics tools are rarely found in the market. This concise book is great for managers and those interested in this field to better understand how analytics tools can be applied in businesses. The author also briefly touches on Big Data which is a fundamental background for understanding current situation of analytics. Data types and format are also mentioned.
This book is divided into seven major parts ranging from fundamental to some particular analytical techniques being used in businesses. The book provides analytics tools which cover Bare analytics, Analytics input tools/data collection methods, Financial analytics, Market analytics, Customer analytics, Employee analytics and Operational analytics.
The author uses concise “Questions” and “Answer” to explain the meaning of each tool. Practical examples are also included. You will also find helpful information in Tip and Trap provided in every chapter of the book. Operational analytics described in part seven is an interesting topic where it can be used for analyzing huge data and get the result in almost real time.
Conducting an analytics task is a challenge. It requires great effort, understanding, skilled employees, leadership and the right tools. It is inevitable that sooner or later more and more companies will realize that analytics is an important tool to unlock valuable hidden patterns from their recorded data and will also be embedded in company’s daily job functions.
