Review
"This is one of the very few significant studies of Schelling published in English during the last fifteen years. It is especially timely and theoretically imaginative, an important contribution to philosophical and religious thought generally, as well as specifically to knowledge of Schelling and nineteenth-century German thought."
From the Back Cover
The Conspiracy of Life offers a series of meditations on the philosophy of F. W. J. Schelling (1775-1854), a great-and greatly neglected-philosopher of life. Rather than construing him as a loopy mystic, or as an antiquated theologian, Jason M. Wirth attempts to locate Schelling as the belated contemporary of thinkers like Heidegger, Derrida, Bataille, Irigaray, Foucault, Deleuze, Levinas, and many others. As such, Schelling is already at the central nerve of current discussions concerning the crisis of truth; the primacy of the Good; the ecstatic nature of time; the nature of art; deep ecology; the world as an aesthetic phenomenon; comparative philosophy; the possibility of non-dialectical philosophy; radical evil; the haunting of philosophy; and the possibility of a philosophical religion.
About the Author
Jason M. Wirth is Associate Professor and Chair of Philosophy, Communications, and Fine Arts at Oglethorpe University. He previously translated and wrote the introduction to Schelling's The Ages of the World for SUNY Press

This book absolutely is about Schelling...
By Brian C.
I am going to make this review short and sweet. I read this book many years ago but I happened across this page a few days ago and I see the only review of this book is based on some kind of mix up. I am not sure what happened but the other reviewer clearly got the wrong book and is providing misinformation regarding this book. I do not want the only review of this book to be a one star review based on misinformation so I am writing my own quick review.
Dr. Wirth was a professor of mine. I studied Schelling with him and I know first-hand that he is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to Schelling. He is the translator of Schelling's Ages of the World, the editor of Schelling Now: Contemporary Readings, and the editor of The Barbarian Principle: Merleau-Ponty, Schelling, and the Question of Nature a book of essays comparing Schelling and Merleau-Ponty. This particular book by Dr. Wirth would be a great choice for anyone interested in understanding Schelling and his relation to contemporary Continental philosophy (Heidegger, Levinas, Derrida, Deleuze, etc.) as well as the Japanese philosopher Nishida Kitaro (Dr. Wirth is also very interested in the Kyoto school and Zen).
That is all I will say for now. At a later date, when I have more time to return to a study of Schelling, I may write a more detailed review. But for now, I just wanted to clear up any confusion caused by the prior review.
